ICER stands for the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review. We are a non-profit research organization that is deeply committed to engaging the patient community in our work. ICER analyzes how well drugs work for patients and suggests a fair price.

We believe that patients should be included in decisions that directly impact their ability to afford and access treatment.

Why We Engage the Patient Community

• Here in the United States, drug manufacturers choose the price (any price) for the drugs they make, and insurance plans decide how to give patients access to those drugs. These decisions are often made without patients in the room.

• ICER believes in fair drug pricing: the price of drugs and treatments should match the benefits that patients and families receive.

• ICER believes in fair patient access: when treatments work well and are fairly priced, they should be easy for patients to access.

When patients share their lived experience and the daily impact of their condition, ICER can better understand how treatments make a difference.
