March 20, 2023 – The Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) today announced the election of a new member to the ICER Governance Board: Linda Goler Blount, MPH, President, Black Women’s Health Imperative. ICER’s Governance Board provides strategic counsel to ICER’s leadership team while maintaining fiduciary responsibility for the organization’s overall operations.
“We are very proud to announce that Linda is joining the ICER Governance Board,” said Steven Pearson, MD, MSc, President of ICER. “Linda has had an extraordinary career at the interface of evidence-based medicine, health policy, and efforts to address health inequity throughout the US healthcare system. She shares the sentiment that ICER’s role as an independent, objective source of evidence is critical to help support more transparent health care policy decisions. Her expertise will strengthen ICER’s ability to help the US health system provide better access to high-value care that all Americans can afford.”
Ms. Goler Blount stated, ”Health technology assessment (HTA) often serves as a filter through which evidence is judged and given context for policymakers’ decisions about pricing, access, and payment. It’s important to continue to examine how to include diverse voices in the patient community, how to interpret data, and how to help highlight opportunities to address the disparities in access and outcomes that persist in our health care system. ICER’s mission is an important one, and I look forward to advising the organization on efforts to create a more just and equitable US health system.”
Linda Goler Blount, MPH, is the President of the Black Women’s Health Imperative, the leading national organization focused on Black women and girl’s emotional, physical and financial health and wellness. Since joining the organization in 2014, Ms. Goler Blount has overseen more than $25 million invested in Black women and research to prevent chronic disease and HIV, ensure reproductive justice and healthy maternal outcomes, and advocate for provider accountability and health promoting policies. Ms. Goler Blount, an epidemiologist, edited IndexUS, the first research on Black women’s health based on healthy Black women. Her career includes successful tenures at CDC, the Coca-Cola Company and consulting with health ministries in countries in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.
