— Experienced thought leader with expertise in employer-sponsored healthcare and personal experience navigating complex medical care will help guide ICER in its mission to have a health system where everyone benefits from fair pricing, fair access, and future innovation

BOSTON, January 20, 2026 – The Governance Board of the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) has elected a new member to the Board: Luke Prettol. Mr. Prettol works as the Principal Benefits Strategy Consultant at AT&T, one of the largest self-insured employers in the country, where he leads strategic design of health and welfare benefits for the company’s employees and retirees. Mr. Prettol brings a dual perspective to health care value, combining deep professional expertise in health care purchasing with personal experience navigating complex medical care following his diagnosis with Friedreich’s ataxia, a rare genetic condition.

“Luke is an incredible thought leader in employer-sponsored health care innovation,” said ICER’s President and CEO Sarah K. Emond, MPP. “We are thrilled to have someone join our Governance Board who combines an expert knowledge of the purchaser-side of the system with first-hand experience as a patient navigating America’s complicated health care system. His leadership will help ensure that ICER continues to keep the patient experience at the core of our work.”

Mr. Prettol stated, “Employers hold significant potential to improve outcomes and affordability for patients. By developing policies and creating programs based on evidence, like ICER’s value assessments, they can help push the system towards better access and value. I’m thrilled to be able to serve on the Governance Board of ICER to bring my perspective to help achieve their mission of fair pricing, fair access, and future innovation.”

In his role at AT&T, Mr. Prettol has implemented tailored patient-centered programs in highly visible areas such as access to obesity medications like the GLP-1s and to cell and gene therapies, deploying advanced health care analytics platforms to identify actionable insights to address disparities.

Luke holds a BBA in Human Resource Management from Baylor University and is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS). Through his professional expertise, personal health care journey, and policy engagement, he brings a comprehensive understanding of how evidence-based value assessments can be translated into sustainable, patient-centered health care solutions.

ICER’s Governance Board provides strategic counsel to ICER’s leadership team while maintaining fiduciary responsibility for the organization’s overall operations.

About ICER

The Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) is an independent non-profit research institute that produces reports analyzing the evidence on the effectiveness and value of drugs and other medical services. ICER’s reports include evidence-based calculations of prices for new drugs that accurately reflect the degree of improvement expected in long-term patient outcomes, while also highlighting price levels that might contribute to unaffordable short-term cost growth for the overall health care system.
