In this role, Dr. Lenz serves as the Clinical Pharmacy Manager for MassHealth, the Massachusetts Medicaid Program, and is responsible for the development and oversight of clinical initiatives. These activities include formulary development and evidence-based prescribing recommendations, with the goal of producing outcomes that deliver appropriate care while managing rising pharmacy costs. In addition, Dr. Lenz has been involved in the creation and implementation of several clinical initiatives for vulnerable populations, including a pediatric behavioral health medication initiative and a high-dose opioid workgroup that aim to promote safe prescribing.
Dr. Lenz is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. In addition to serving in ex-officio capacity for The Institute for Clinical and Economic Review’s New England Comparative Effectiveness Public Advisory Council, Dr. Lenz is active in the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, serving on the Professional Practice Committee as well the Addiction Advisory Group.
Her areas of professional interest include appropriate opioid prescribing, substance use disorder, transitions of care and a multidisciplinary approach to complex disease states. Dr. Lenz holds a PharmD from the University of Connecticut and completed a residency at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
