During Dr. Winston’s career in cardiology and electrophysiology, he was co-director of the electrophysiology laboratory, chief of cardiology and the medical director of the Michigan Heart and Vascular Institute at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI. He founded quality committees within his practice and within the institute, with an emphasis on peer-review and the patient experience.
He received his B.S. in psychology and his medical degree from Michigan State University. His medicine residency and general cardiology fellowship was at Detroit Osteopathic and Riverside Hospitals. His fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology was at the University of California, San Francisco.
For the last 10+ years, Dr. Winston was the physician lead of a provider coaching program for Trinity Health IHA Medical Group, a 1000+ provider multispecialty group in Southeastern Michigan. His focus in this program was on the patient experience. As part of these activities, he was also the lead faculty member for regularly held workshops on provider-patient communication.
