Melanie Whittington, PhD, MS

Associate Director of Health Economics

Mel joined ICER in September of 2020 as Associate Director of Health Economics. Prior to coming to ICER, Mel was an academic collaborator of ICER’s and contributed toward numerous ICER reviews, including leading the economic modeling for CAR-T and digital applications for opioid use disorder. She held academic appointments in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and in the School of Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. While she was in academia, she held a joint appointment with the Veteran’s Health Administration. She was an investigator within the VA’s Center for Veteran-Centered and Value-Driven Care. She has served as a member of the ICER Health Economics Council since 2015 and is a member of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research and the Society for Medical Decision Making.

Mel received her PhD in Health Services Research from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus with a concentration in health economics. She also holds a Master of Science degree in Health Sciences with a concentration in public health. In her spare time, Mel enjoys going on walks with her two daughters and playing cards with her husband and neighbors.
